Cheryl Lynn Hepfer is the only Diplomate of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers in Maryland. The College is a select group of 100 of the top family law trial lawyers from across the United States. The organization was formed in 1993. The members are invited to attend, and are recognized as the best trial lawyers in America in the area of family law.

Diplomates are chosen based upon their recognized skills as litigators whose practices include complex and sophisticated matters.

Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers

Cheryl Lynn Hepfer is Immediate Past President of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. The Academy was founded in 1962, by highly regarded domestic relations attorneys “to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the cause of matrimonial law, to the end that the welfare of the family and society be protected.” There are currently 1600 Fellows in the United States.

Admission to the Academy is limited to those attorneys who are highly skilled negotiators and litigators. The 1600 Fellows are generally recognized by judges and attorneys as preeminent family law practitioners with a high level of knowledge, skill and integrity. Academy Fellows enjoy a reputation for professionalism, competence and integrity.

Ms. Hepfer is also Past President of the Maryland Chapter of the Academy. Before becoming President of the national organization, she served as membership chair for many years, and held a number of other offices. Ms. Hepfer has been a regular instructor at the Academy‘s annual Institute, and has spoken on a variety of topics on behalf of the Academy throughout the United States. Ms. Hepfer has been quoted in a number of publications and has appeared on MSNBC and CNN, having been asked to comment on matters of interest in regard to the area of family law.

Fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers

Ms. Hepfer is Vice-President of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and is Past President of the US Chapter of the International Academy. The IAML is a worldwide association of practicing lawyers who are recognized by their peers as the most experienced and expert family law specialists in their respective countries. Admission is limited to those who meet the Academy‘s admission criteria.

The IAML was formed in 1986 to improve international family law practice throughout the world. The IAML creates a network of expertise in international family law around the world, as one of its primary goals.
