
Cheryl Lynn Hepfer
Cheryl Hepfer is one of the few Maryland lawyers named in Woodward White‘s The Best Lawyers in America. Washingtonian Magazine, listing her as one of the top divorce lawyers in the area, described her as “one of the most creative and hard-working lawyers in Maryland,” and further stated, “Hepfer is known for her thoroughness.”
Ms. Hepfer is Past President of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. The Academy is comprised of the nation‘s top family law attorneys from 47 states, who specialize in all issues relating to marriage, divorce, annulment, custody, child visitation, property valuation, property distribution, alimony and child support. The Academy was founded in 1962 “to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the cause of matrimonial law to the end that the welfare of the family and society be preserved.”
Ms. Hepfer is also Vice-President of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Past President of the US Chapter of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and a Diplomate of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers. She is rated “AV” and is listed as a pre-eminent lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell. She has recently been named as one of the Top 25 Women Lawyers and one of the Top 50 Lawyers in Maryland by Super Lawyers in the Baltimore Magazine.
National media, including the New York Times, have quoted Ms. Hepfer, and she has been asked to comment on legal issues by CNN, the Wall Street Journal, and MSNBC, among others. She is a frequent speaker to national organizations, and is recognized as an expert in the legal community.
Ms. Hepfer is trained in the area of Collaborative Law, and is certified as an arbitrator by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She served on the Ethics 2000 Committee and the Gender Bias Committee of the Maryland State Bar Association.
Ms. Hepfer received her B.S. Degree from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1968, and her law degree from the Washington College of Law, American University in 1972.
